The role of CATL is to support teachers in their practice with the aim of enhancing the quality of the student learning experience and the quality of the teacher’s experience at UWA.
This support is provided within a framework of principles that guide teaching and learning activities at The University of Western Australia, including:
- Creating an environment for staff and students which emphasises students and staff as partners in learning
- Ensuring that teaching and learning take place in a culture of research and scholarship
- Providing a ‘high tech, high touch’ educational experience which incorporates both effective classroom-based learning and the use of relevant educational technologies, to best meet the needs of a diverse student body
- Actively improving the quality of the student learning experience within and beyond the classroom
CATL aims to fulfil its role by:
- Providing programs, resources and services that support and encourage teachers to develop, maintain and extend good teaching practice
- Promoting and facilitating collaboration and community building
- Providing leadership in teaching and learning
- Facilitating the adoption of new policy and innovative practice in teaching and learning
- Promoting the scholarship of teaching and learning at UWA
- Promoting and supporting the recognition and rewarding of high achievement in academic work
