Developing Broad Learning Outcomes for your Unit

Broad learning outcome statements state explicitly what the student will be able to do by the end of the unit. They provide a measurable means of determining student learning.

Aligning Assessment with Learning Outcomes

The broad learning outcomes for your unit indicate to the student what they are expected to know and how they are expected to demonstrate that knowledge in their assessment tasks.

Aligning Marking with Learning Outcomes and Assessment Tasks

Your marking and grading schemes need to provide a measure of how well the student met the learning outcomes as assessed through the assessment task. Complex assessment tasks (such as real-life problems of the discipline) may require you to develop your own assessment criteria for grading.
