Outcomes Based Education and Assessment at UWA

In 2001 the University of Western Australia - Academic Council resolved to endorse the introduction of outcomes based education (OBE) throughout the University. At UWA, OBE focuses on student learning by using learning outcome statements to make explicit what the student is expected to be able to know or do. Integrated with OBE is the notion of judging student work through the use of specific assessment criteria. This short paper addresses key points regarding criterion-referenced assessment.
