How to achieve the Faculty objectives
Having assessed resources currently available, the Faculty will need to identify additional resources required to meet its strategic objectives in relation to online learning. These will include:
- ensuring adequate infrastructure and administrative systems are in place to maintain the quality of the learning environment for students
- establishing a 'flexible delivery team'
The experience of others emphasises the importance of a team approach in successful implementation of online teaching and learning programs. In addition to the relevant Faculty academic and administrative staff, and depending on the objectives of the Faculty, the 'flexible delivery team' might include:
- Faculty CATLysts
- project managers
- instructional/educational designers, and
- computer support staff
Such a team will need access to other support staff such as:
- graphic designers
- programmers
- photographers
- AV and media support
to help with
- providing ongoing staff support and development (workshops, one-on-one consultation)
- developing a realistic time-line for implementation of online learning
- implementing a system of review of online teaching resources
Some guiding questions for achieving objectives
- How will academic staff gain the skills to teach online, both technical and academic skills?
- How will students gain the skills to learn online, both technical and academic skills?
- What are the professional development and support needs of academic staff?
- What processes need to be put in place to ensure the quality of the learning environment for students is maintained?
- What processes need to be put in place to ensure the quality of the learning environment for students is maintained?
- What technical support (e.g., computer labs, help desks) will staff and students need?
