104)          the teacher has shown enthusiasm for teaching the subject

Ask any student what one quality they value in a teacher and there is a good chance the  answer will be enthusiasm for the subject matter.

·         Teaching behaviours that exhibit enthusiasm appear to have a strong relationship to student achievement according to a review of research on teacher performance (Rosenshine & Furst, 1971).

·         Parson (2001) gives examples of teacher behaviours that indicate enthusiasm and convey an inner attitude of the teacher outwardly, to the students.

·         Greenburg (1999) cites research findings from Brophy and Good (1986) and McKeachie et al. (1990). concerning the positive affect of teacher enthusiasm on student achievement.
