270)          Handouts and notes have helped me to understand the material

Handouts can be used in a variety of ways to emphasise and enhance learning. By freeing students from note-taking, they can allow more active learning strategies to be used.

·         Davis Wood & Wilson (1983) suggest judicious use of handouts to help students follow the main structure of the lecture.

·         Gibbs & Habeshaw (1989) recommend getting students to participate in completing or using the handouts as an active learning strategy during the class (pp. 132-133).

·         Cox (1994) suggests handouts are very effective used in moderation and suggest some strategies for maximising their usefulness
