An Introduction to Problem Based Learning

Intended Audience:

Lecturing staff who want to explore ways to foster deeper understanding in their students.

Workshop Description:

In this workshop you will discuss the basic principles of PBL. Discussions will include advantages and disadvantages of PBL and some areas of curriculum development, problem writing and tutor training.

Intended Outcomes:

At the completion of this workshop you should be able to:

  • Describe the basic principles of PBL;
  • Describe basic principles of curriculum development;
  • Describe basic principles of PBL tutoring;
  • Apply the principles to your chosen discipline.
