Teaching and Learning Research Colloquium

Staff intested in teaching and learning research and scholarship.

Description:

As part of Teaching and Learning Month 2009, the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) and the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Support Office are pleased to host the inaugural Teaching and Learning Research Colloquium to provide an opportunity for UWA staff to share their teaching and learning research and scholarship with their peers.  The one day colloquium will include a number of parallel presentation streams to showcase the teaching and learning research and scholarship occurring at UWA.

The keynote address will be made by Associate Professor Janice Orrell, School of Education, Flinders University.  Associate Professor Orrell is an educational consultant who has worked in higher education in various academic roles since 1977.  Most recently she has reviewed written policy for various universities and enabled its implementation.  She has engaged in academic development and educational change at both an institutional and national level.  She has been an academic in indigenous teacher education and academic and Head of Department in nursing education.  In 2001 she led a team who won the Australian Universities National Award of Excellence for the Flinders Foundation of University Teaching.  Her research fields are assessement in higher education, work-integrated learning and the inducation of academics to various aspects of their role, namley, teaching, Higher Degree supervision and research.

The colloquium will also feature a session by Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) grant holders talking about their experiences with ALTC grants, and the outcomes of their research and projects.

"Successful ALTC Research Projects" will be a great opportunity to hear from a variety of UWA ALTC grant winners. They will talk about their projects, their current status including difficulties and highlights,  and what they hope to achieve from the research.  They will also discuss strategies they used to develop a successful grant application. There will be ample time for questions.

Professor Sally Sandover from the UWA ALTC Support Office will also provide guidelines on the different types of ALTC grants and how the Support Office can help you with your grant application.
