A Student's View
An effective large group lecture is one which will:
- Point out what concepts need to be covered in the lecture, give an adequate understanding of all these concepts and explain what depth of understanding is required.
- Enable effective notes to be taken by, for example, clearly presenting, important definitions or formulae with meaningful, interesting examples.
- Cover the material in ways that help a useful recall of material, especially in a logical and coherent sequence, with the concepts put in an appropriate context.
- Engage the interest of a large majority of the students and so enable and encourage further learning, through an interesting presentation, citing references, giving readings of possible interest, etc.
- Proceed smoothly with effective use of lighting and audiovisual equipment, and be of the correct duration.
