Keeping in Touch: Academic Discussion Lists on Email
Email discussion lists or `mailing lists' provide a means to communicate with other like-minded individuals in an area of interest. All you need to do is subscribe to the list, and then when you or anyone else on the list posts an email message to the list, it is distributed to all members of the list.
There is a new list called TEST-L that has been established to allow mailing list novices the opportunity to practice without disturbing other more experienced list members. To subscribe send an email message to listserv@vm.cnuce.cnr.it with the message subscribe test-l yourfirstname yourlastname . You will receive a message that tells you how to use the list to practice your skills amongst other new users.
Also recently established is the HERDSA list. HERDSA is the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia. This network is intended to serve the interests of research and development in higher education throughout and beyond Australasia by disseminating information to all subscribers. To subscribe to this list send an email message to listproc@anu.edu.au with the message subscribe herdsa yourfirstname yourlastname. An acknowledgement message will be sent to you with instructions on how to post messages to the list.
A local discussion list concerning teaching and learning issues is called ETI (Exchanging Teaching Ideas). There are currently subscribers from Curtin, Edith Cowan, Murdoch and UWA. To subscribe send mail to majordomo@cleo.murdoch.edu.au with the message subscribe eti end . Confirmation of your subscription and a welcome message will be sent to you by return email. You might also be interested in viewing the eti archives at URL:http://cleo.murdoch.edu.au/asu/edtech/cleo_web/mdomo/commserv_lists.html
