Teaching for Diversity

A useful Web resource for those interested in an inclusive curricula can be found at Iowa State University. Their Centre for Teaching Excellence states,

"... the idea is not to teach each group of students in a class in a different way, but to teach all students with greater flexibility and understanding. As teachers become aware of the range of expectations and cultural predispositions among their students, the hope is that they will break out of the "one size fits all" approach to teaching. They and their students will experiment with learning in new ways, learning to approach issues and problems from multiple perspectives. The result should be that all students in the class are more motivated and learn better. Those whose concerns and preferred learning styles have rarely been acknowledged in the past should gain the most. The goal is to eliminate persistent cultural bias from college classrooms; the promise is improvement in education for all."
