Marketing 19th Century Universities

Casazza (1995) suggests that a marketing release for a 19th century university in the United States that reflected the philosophy, students and curriculum of the period might read:

The Currently Common College located in Middle America, U.S.A. is seeking men and a few women and minorities who would like to study in the innovative field of science to become prepared for opportunities in agriculture. Our mission is to prepare those individuals interested in a practical education that relates directly to vocational interests. Students may apply to the junior college of our university to determine if four years of study is appropriate for them.
