How to get students to read – some suggestions

  1. Explain the benefits/ highlight the opportunities.
  2. Ensure reading is integral to the learning required in the course.
  3. Give guidance on how to read most effectively in the discipline.
  4. Make the requirement explicit.
  5. Expect core reading and some optional reading.
  6. Check that the required reading has been completed.
  7. Give feedback to students on what they have learned through reading.
  8. Reward effective reading through the student assessment process.
