Dr Greg Hertzler -- Masters Supervision Award

'Excellence in Teaching - what is it?'

Photo of Greg Hertzler

A supervisor should help students maintain their momentum. Each student is different. some are going well, but are unsure. Too much red ink too early will stall their progress. Others go charging off, heedless of advice. A lot of red ink early on may prevent a crash later. A good supervisor skillfully applies encouragement and critique. Of course the skill is knowing which to apply and when. I don't have a tip for that.
