The importance of assessment in teaching and learning is amply evident in the number of publications on that topic. Some academics might feel that it has been discussed to death or that they know all there is know about it, but the issues related to assessment need to be kept in mind whenever classes, modules, units or courses are planned or reviewed. The forthcoming quality audit of UWA makes the discussion of assessment matters all the more pertinent. This edition re-visits some of the issues discussed in previous editions of ITL.

The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) invites reader response to its publication ITL. Responses advancing the scholarly debate of issues raised will be published in the Web version of that issue.
