THE UWA TEACHING CRITERIA FRAMEWORK

The UWA teaching criteria framework underpins the teaching component of the academic portfolio, and informs (developmental and evaluative) discussions and career planning around teaching and learning. The framework is broad and flexible, and provides UWA staff robust and valid criteria of effective teaching.

The framework is a tool to assist staff teaching at UWA to collect evidence from a range of sources relevant to teaching development, quality and leadership related to teaching in order to determine developmental priorities, and/or make a claim for performance based rewards.

The teaching criteria framework consists of six areas of activity; six areas of core knowledge and six professional values

Alongside the framework, Standard descriptors for each career level of the university set out university-wide expectations for teaching staff.

Academic staff will use different types of evidence, drawing from the examples provided or from other relevant sources, to demonstrate the way in which they meet or are developing towards meeting the standard descriptors for teaching expectations at each level. The framework allows this evidence to be collected and organised systematically and coherently.

This website also provides guidelines and examples for staff using the framework to prepare a teaching portfolio
